Living on Island Time

Island Time came to me after a busy day.  I finally sat down watching TV trying to unwind and I started thinking about our recent trip to Bonaire.  While we were down in Bonaire after leaving home during a major snowstorm, I was trying to remember if I had gotten everything done before leaving. I needed a cup of coffee desperately that first morning.  At breakfast, I ordered a cup of coffee from our waiter and twenty minutes later, I still didn’t have my cup of coffee.  Seeing the pot of coffee, I walked up to pour myself a cup and as I reached for the pot, I heard our waiter say, “I said I would get the cup for you Mon, now go back and sit down and I will bring it over to you.”  He added, “Where are you going Mon, do you need to be somewhere Mon.”  I walked back to the table and sat down.  My cup of coffee arrived after another twenty minutes.  It was then that I realized, I was now, “Living on Island Time.”

I wrote the song that night.

Ice Cold Beer appeared on an Editorial Playlist on Spotify, before I even knew what Spotify was.

Ice Cold Beer

Ice Cold Beer was written while sitting out on my front porch after a hard, hot days work.  Cooking up some burgers and dogs and tossing down a nice cold bottle of beer…….. Yea, all Ya had to do was sit and wait for a paradise.

along with Charlie Tuttle on harmonica.

A Light in the Distance

Like an old sea chanty or an epic story, “A Light in the Distance” will take you on a final adventure where the wind and sea hold your fate……… and the wind calls out your name.  When I first wrote this song, most of the lyrics wrote themselves, as my mind took me on this fateful trip. It took me however, many years to come up with the final lines of the song, as I may have been too young to appreciate where the wind would take me.

Everything Considered

Everything Considered was written based on stories my dad had told me when I was a young boy about some great men he knew and several I have had the pleasure to have meet. Although the character Joe in the song is fictional, I hope I have touched upon the spirit of those stories, about the heroes who fought for freedom and the memory of these gentlemen and the countless number of fallen heroes who fought for our freedom so others wouldn’t have to.

Burning Wood

“Burning Wood” was written during the oil crunch in the eighties.  There were long gas lines, the price of oil to heat your house was high and the winters were cold.  We lived in a small cape that had a rustic charm and decided that we would find some other way to heat our house to help keep cost down.  We went out and bought a Vermont Castings Vigilant wood stove that at the time you could buy a kit to convert it to coal if so desired.  Never did convert the stove but stayed nice and warm all winter long using the wood burning stove.  I wrote the song that first winter, while sitting by the stove on a cold winters night and it was quite a popular song, as everyone joined in the chorus “Burning Wood…….Burning Wood”.
After we moved from the cape the stove was put away and served more as decoration until most recently with the rising cost of fuel to heat our house…..once again, I’m sitting by the fire drinking my beer, singing a little song and staying nice and warm……all winter long!

Charlie Tuttle plays harmonica and sings back-up on this single.

The Old Covered Bridge

The Old Covered Bridge was written around 1980 inspired by the Swift River Bridge in New Hampshire, where people had carved their initials along the timbers of the old wooden bridge. I often wondered about the stories and lives of those who might return to remember………. so, here is a story of a lost love and a place to return by the old, covered bridge in summer.

Honey, You’ve Got the Touch

Written for my wife Anne, this was recorded pretty much how I first played it for her back in 2007.

TODAY

Today was written with the idea of three individual people all coming to that moment in one’s life when it’s time to define one’s life.  Leaving by boat, train or plane, time is in the present.

“Today has come, before tomorrow’s gone, I can’t let it slip away, so I’ll be on my way, Today.”
Saying goodby to what is known and stepping out to find one’s purpose, is what defines, Today.

Song Playing Low

Certainly! “Song Playing Low” by Peter J. is a heartfelt track inspired by a childhood memory of a local town drunk.
The lyrics evoke curiosity about the man’s life as he walks home at various hours, waving to passersby.
Despite his circumstances, he appears jolly, seemingly carefree.
The song captures the essence of fleeting moments and the stories hidden within everyday encounters.

Peter J., a singer-songwriter and recording artist, brings this poignant memory to life through his music.

Charlie Tuttle joined with me to play harmonica on this single.

The Ocean’s Daughter

The Ocean’s Daughter was written around 1992. This is a song we enjoyed playing with its upbeat tempo and story that unfolds during the song.
Nicole Blaisdell provides the Ocean’s Daughter voice and backing vocals along with Rachael Dunn, John Malewicz and my wife Anne. Nicole is also the model on the album cover.
This song was originally scheduled to appear on my album: ” Living on Island Time”, which was released in 2006. The song, however, was tabled for a later release.
Well, it took a while, so here it is, 16 years later.
